Indiana State Capitol, Indianapolis, Indiana

The state of Indiana is taking federalism to a new level by working to promote proven local solutions through the creation of the Office of State Based Initiatives. The Office recently released a new report outlining the federal government’s overreach in the Hoosier State and ways that balance can be restored between Indiana and the federal government. According to analysis from State Budget Solutions last month, Indiana relied on the federal government for 32.96% of its general revenue in 2012. The Hoosier State has already taken proactive measures to enact state-based solutions, and efforts like this represent a continued step in the right direction to reduce dependence on Washington, D.C.
